The Weibull distribution
is used for example to describe
the lifetime of objects in quality
control and for the description of
wind speeds and other natural
phenomena. Special cases of the
Weibull function are the exponential
distribution used to study waiting
times, the Rayleigh distribution
(used to study the scattering of
radiation, wind speeds or to make
certain transformations) and the
log-Weibull distribution (to study
the limiting distribution for the
smallest or largest values in
samples). Yet other names are the
Fisher-Tippett distribution, extreme
value distribution and Gumbel's
